iTunes shuffle survey

July 31, 2008 · 3 Comments

hahaha ok listen. when i started doing this survey i was like, “don’t cheat danny, don’t cheat.” and i noticed that all that songs that kept coming up were coldplay! i wasn’t even cheating but i still thought it was weird! then i noticed the last artist i searched for was coldplay. doops.

so here we go – and i absolutely cross my heart i didn’t cheat… you’ll see why when you see what songs got served. unbelievable. it shuffled the most random songs ever (and only i understand the randomness). maybe next time i’ll try it with my iPod instead.

IF YOUR LIFE WERE A MOVIE, WHAT WOULD THE SOUNDTRACK BE?

So, here’s how it works:
1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc)
2. Put it on shuffle
3. Press play
4. For every question, type the song that’s playing
5. When you go to a new question, press the next button
6. Don’t lie!

Opening Credits: reign of love, coldplay (niiiice)

Waking Up: the water buffalo song, veggietales (you’ve got to be kidding me)

First Day At School: kiss the girl, the little mermaid (i told you i wasn’t cheating)

Falling In Love: climbing uphill, the last five years (hilarious)

Fight Song: cupid, sam cooke (not fitting… but i suppose i’m more of a lover, not a fighter)

Prom: folsom prison blues, johnny cash (sexy)

Life’s OK: (no way! i got a good one) que sera sera, rosemary clooney

Mental Breakdown: jet song, west side story (umm…)

Driving: smile, lily allen (nice!)

Flashback: what do i need with love, from thoroughly modern millie (interesting)

Getting Back Together: careless love, madelein peyroux (also interesting)

Birth of Child: (aww no way…) wheels of a dream, ragtime

Wedding: carry on wayward son, kansas (this is funny because ryan loves this song haha)

Final Battle: sandy, from annie (yes, the song where they sing about what to name the dog)

Death Scene: get it faster, jimmy eat world (aww man)

Funeral Song: not a day goes by, from merrily we roll along (hmm…)

End Credits: quando quando quando, michael buble (no comment.)

your turn! do it do it!

random rundown starts… now!

July 30, 2008 · 3 Comments

1. i had a really bad headache this morning and i told Cake about it (the person, not the food, remember?). here’s how our convo went:

me: “My head is killing me today.”

cake: [in all seriousness says] “Maybe you fell off your pillow. Did you?”

where do i find these people! she’s hilarious. and apparently that is a common saying over here, so she says.

2. i finally talked to bradley! : )

3. this is to “Danielle Meo” (my fbook name twin): congrats on guessing West Side Story! it looks like you win one of my fish… i’ll put it in the mail soon, but i’m not guaranteeing it will arrive alive. i’m glad it was you that won, by the way.

3a. random side not about my fbook name twin – after accepting her friend request i checked out her page, and guess what? nope. nope. nope. not only do we have the same name (well, technically it IS my name now), but we have the same birthday!! isn’t that trippy? i think it is… and so did she.

4. i have been listening to soo much coldplay lately – they are rockin’ my socks fo shizzle. if you haven’t heard their new album yet, you need to. in fact, just purchase it stat! it’s brilliant.

5. oh gosh i have a story! it’s about a bug. in my office at work, i have a bathroom attached to it. well, today i went and did my duty and (as usual), i washed my hands and reached for the hand towel. that’s when i saw it… [side note: have you ever watched america's funniest home videos and seen someone's expression a split second after someone/thing scares them? they kind of blink their eyes twice and freeze in movement while trying to move? okay, well imagine that as i tell you what happened next]. that’s when i saw it… on the end of the towel rack… the size of manhattan… a cockroach! aaaaahhh!!

well, yeah i freaked out! and after i was able to move again i ran out of my office and down the stairs and stopped abruptly on the landing while calling out, “someone help! there is a huge cockroach in my bathroom!” so Wit and Zax come upstairs with me to kill the beast (you must know that Zax doesn’t speak english hardly at all, but he seemed to know the word “cockroach”). Wit takes a piece of paper into the bathroom and scoops the beast up and then walks into my office. i assumed he had smashed it already, but i realized he hadn’t when he went to look at it and it lept out of his hand! i promise you it was coming after me. so naturally, i screamed and ran into the conference room and jumped on one of the chairs… it was a sight. and i’m happy to report that Wit slayed the beast and saved my life. and i’m pretty sure Zax thinks i’m nuts (there’s just too many examples to post right now).

6. i have been learning many Thai words! thanks to those who offered suggestions. i’ll reveal my new vocabulary come friday…

7. happy hump day : )

brace yourselves…

July 29, 2008 · 1 Comment

alright, listen. i have not sang (“sang”), since i was back in the States. –that is like, almost three months ago! i’m sure you can imagine how insane i am going. so today at work, whilst in my office, i sang (or rather, gave a valiant effort). i decided to record it for kicks, and now… i’ve decided to post it, even though i had funny things to tell you today.

i’d like to dedicate this to bradley… i miss your singing voicemails.

it’s a song from the musical Spring Awakening (and it’s only audio, no video):

i think that’s enough for one day.

fish. monks. smells like monday.

July 28, 2008 · 2 Comments

so i’ve got this fish tank full of fish. there’s probably about 20 or so; too many to name (although we did name the littlest guy “Smacky”). anyway, sometimes i like to observe them, and i was doing just that a moment ago. i noticed that a few of the fish were ganging up on one guy in particular. but then… i realized something…

there are two kinds of fish in the tank: the fish with red tails and the fish with black tails (which i now refer to as, the Sharks and the Jets [anybody? anybody? first person to name that reference gets one of my fish]). and as i watched them i noticed that the Sharks stick together and the Jets stick together. furthermore, the Sharks were bullying the Jets! they were deliberatly plotting and attacking! i leaned a little closer and i was certain i heard Smacky leading the Jets in, “When you’re a Jet you’re a Jet all the way…”

in other news, here’s a few things i saw on my way to work this morning (via motor-taxi, as usual):

1. a monk. not just “a” monk… i have seen the same monk every work day for the past week. i know it’s the same one because he is rather rotund, and his bright orange wrap/robe/sarong type thing does not accentuate his positives (nor eliminate his negatives). monks are extremely revered individuals here, and i don’t think you’re allowed to touch them, but every monk i see i always try to get them to smile back at me. i’m delighted to say, i’ve been successful each time. kill ‘em with your charm, danny girl. kill ‘em with your charm. i also started thinking about if i’d make a good monk or not… after weighing the pros and cons, i have decided, i would not (though i think i could really pull off the bright orange wrap/robe/sarong type thing).

2. i also saw a dog going numero two on the sidewalk.

3. something i did not see this morning was my waffle vendor lady. i would always stop by her stand on my way to work and grab a banana waffle for 15baht ($.48 cents in USD). she’s been MIA for the past week and half – i hope she’s alright. i don’t know her name, but in my head i call her Donna.

4. i awoke this morning to an email asking if i would confirm a friend request from mike bruning… my brother! i cannot believe mike has facebook now… i’m just… so… PROUD! i knew he’d cross over. and just last week he told me that he’s not into “facebook.” just you wait, big bro. just you wait.

ah yes, and lastly, i forgot to learn a new Thai word today. i will tomorrow, i promise. it was just another manic monday…

time to learn Thai (but i need your help).

July 27, 2008 · 2 Comments

it’s sunday sunday sunday.

what is that from? something involving football? i have absolutely no clue.

wanna hear something repulsive? i haven’t showered since friday morning. i don’t stink, i promise… besides, it’s good for your hair to not wash it everyday… ask sam hills.

so i’ve been in thailand going on three months and, still, my vocabulary is quite limited. the only words i know in Thai are as follows:

left, right, hello, thank you, chicken noodle soup, chicken and vegetables, chicken fried rice, our street name, how are you, 24, yes, how much, ghost (don’t ask), aunt — there may be more, but those are the main ones i use.

on one hand it’s difficult because i am able to get by just fine without using Thai, and i have a job where i am paid to speak english. but on the other hand, it would be nice to learn more words while here. so this week, ryan and i are going to learn a new word each day (if we remember. we tried this last week and forgot to implement it). what words should i learn? i need suggestions…for real.

and now, another hilarious quote brought to you by “SF” via satellite (aka, facebook message):

“Why do I have this odd feeling that you’re going to end up in Thai history books as some sort of cultural reformer?”

that cracks me up! i’m not kidding, i have the funniest friends in the history of the world: part 1 (…i hope at least one person got that).

but listen, i’m serious about wanting suggestions of words to learn in Thai… i need five, one for each work day. which means one person should suggest five or five people suggest one. and it can be anything that is a word… good luck.

happy sunday to you.

cake, the person. and some nonsense.

July 26, 2008 · 2 Comments

one of my co-workers, whose name is Cake (Thai always go by a nickname, and coincidentally her mom ate a lot of cake while pregnant with her), asked me go see the Dark Knight with her yesterday after work and, without hesitation, i said, “yes, please!”  her beau, Win, accompanied us as well. Cake said he might be scared of me because he doesn’t speak english very well and doesn’t like to – she also informed me that Thai don’t shake hands upon meeting someone (i’m SO american…sheesh), so i said i’d just smile and politely say hello.

we arrived at the movie theatre a bit early, so Cake took me to the supermarket to help me pick out my new, favorite fruit: guava. that’s when it happened… Win spoke to me in english! referring to the guava he said, “the middle is the best part.” [gasp!] and from then on, the ice was broken and he practiced his english a little bit more. not only was i excited to be hanging out with Cake, but i felt flattered that Win didn’t find me scary and didn’t shy away from using english. AND i got to see the Dark Knight again. …dang, it’s a good one.

hold on a sec…

ok. sorry about that. i’m watching Alice in Wonderland and it was my very favorite part: the tea party scene. this is such a strange disney flick, but it’s probably my favorite. i enjoy nonsense.

speaking of nonsense – yesterday, during the work day, i skype chatted with an old chum. below i have pasted our convo, and if this isn’t nonsense, i don’t know what is. oh yes, they said if i put this chat in my blog, i must refer to them as “Warrior Chicken Brow.” …i wish i were kidding.

Warrior Chicken Brow says: Start a theatre
Danielle Meo says: they’re not expressive people
Warrior Chicken Brow says: I know a rich guy that would love to sponsor it
Warrior Chicken Brow says: MAKE THEM EXPRESSIVE!
Danielle Meo says: hahaha FINE
Warrior Chicken Brow says: “This just in, sporty American chick makes the entire country of Thailand FEEL!”
Warrior Chicken Brow says: i like it
Danielle Meo says: oh jeez
Warrior Chicken Brow says: you were their pb&j savior . . . be there theatre savior
Warrior Chicken Brow says: you probably haven’t even taught the children about Audrey Hepburn either, have you?
Warrior Chicken Brow says: You make me sick!
Danielle Meo says: here we go
Warrior Chicken Brow says: You once had dreams . . . you once had a vision of a Hepburn educated land of Thai
Warrior Chicken Brow says: now look at you . . .
Warrior Chicken Brow says: sitting at a desk
Warrior Chicken Brow says: TALKIN IN A MIC

sometimes i feel like Alice and i’m stuck in wonderland surrounded by completely insane people. and the odd thing is, i wouldn’t have it any other way.

happy saturday : ) join me tomorrow, won’t you?

success, sleepy, and so on

July 25, 2008 · Leave a Comment

oh man. what a very good day. there is so much i want to share but i’m quite exhausted. i will say this, though…

pb/j day was a success! i prefaced the making of the sandwich by showing the classic, “peanut butter jelly time” youtube video; explaining its bizarre popularity in the States. it’s interesting watching someone eat peanut butter for the first time. it reminded me of the time ryan and i put peanut butter on the roof of Carter’s (our cat back in the States), mouth. hilarious.

i would love to write more, but i need rest like thailand needs stars in the night sky; badly. looks like you’ll have to tune in tomorrow…

love to you, reader. be well. and happy friday, i hope yours is as lovely as mine was.

disparaging news devastates danny…

July 24, 2008 · Leave a Comment

today was a day to be remembered.

today i found out the most shocking, unfortunate, horrible news. and it’s unfair, and it’s wrong, and quite frankly, i won’t stand for it.

today… at lunch… i found out that no one in my company has ever had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

#$*@#$!

upon hearing the news, i was completely beside myself. i… couldn’t form words… it was like that time when i was nine and ricky decker told me that he heard his dad telling his sister, jessica, that santa claus wasn’t real. sometimes you think you know someone… and then BAM!

after a few moments of being in utter disbelief, while also feeling morose for these depraved people, i stood up and made a proclamation. “TOMORROW SHALL BE DECLARED ‘PEANUT BUTTER, JELLY DAY!’”

i’m serious. i am taking in JIF peanut butter, jam and bread – and i’m showin’ these people how it’s done. worry not good people of thailand, your pb/j saviour has arrived.

furthermore, i challenge you, dear reader – tomorrow (friday), eat a pb/j sandwich. show these thai people you care and you support their endeavors! for the love of JIF! eat a pb/j! do it for thailand.

father, fashion, friendship

July 23, 2008 · 2 Comments

on tuesdays, my dad and i always (or at least for the past three tuesdays) chat via video skype. my father is quite easily the funniest person i know (besides myself). well, ryan and i came up with a game that would be fun to play with him. the game was “say that fashion designer’s name correctly.” so on several pieces of paper, i wrote the names of:

Gucci

Hermes

Yves St. Laurent

Louis Vuitton

Chanel

Versace

his score was 2/6. fail. the 2 he pronounced correctly were Gucci and Chanel (but i was reeeeally hoping he’d say “channel”). he pretty much just pronounced everything as it looks, which is what we expected him to do; hence the fun-ness of the game. it was hilarious.

it’s always fun talking to my dad. he is one guy that just really enjoys life, or if he doesn’t he’s putting up an exceptionally good front. and he thinks i am the greatest thing since sliced bread. i was playing the theme song to “green acres” and was dancing around and flailing my arms about, and you’d think my dad was watching me take my first steps. he’s a good man, that dad of mine. last week our discussion was about things i should say at his funeral to lighten the mood. completely morbid, yeah? ironically, it wasn’t. it was pretty hilarious because everything he suggested i say was as sarcastic as they come. gosh, i love that man.

moving on.

after work today i had to swing by the grocery, mainly because we’re almost out of peanut butter. and on my way i saw this:

i know, right? they were walking the opposite way as me, so i turned around and stalked them while rummaging for my camera. after i snapped their photo, i literally couldn’t stop smiling for a few blocks.

to whomever is reading this, i hope you have a wonderful day today – seeing as you are experiencing the beginning of wednesday while mine is drawing to an end. be well.
